Shrimp and Grits, Shrimp and Grits, Shrimp and Grits! Some people would start a hot and heated southern debate over who’s the best while others don’t care for it because of the grits. I first ran into the dish at a business conference where the chef was serving them in little glasses as appetizers. It was very creative. I mean, who wants slices of cheese nuggets when you can have a crockpot meal in a miniature glass. Just saying... Crockpot Me!!! At first, I’m not sure if I was skeptical or just curious. It’s when I saw the seasoned shrimp getting tossed up in the air that sold this seafood lover. While I was so busy looking at the shrimp and wasn’t paying attention to the sausage sizzling on the side. So now we’re talking about a dish with shrimp and sausage. I know, I know. The plot thickens. Then, when the chef compiled everything, I didn’t even notice everything was on a bed of smooth cheese grits. I knew immediately something was wrong. How could something this good be given away at a business event? That’s how you know there were important people at this event if this was the snack. After that, trying to locate the same flavor was difficult. Simply put, some folks just don’t know how to cook the grits, use the wrong cheese, or use cheap sausage. Plus, some just don’t know how to season well. Try and try again, I just could not find a player in this space until traveling to Charleston, South Carolina on a food hunt. AND YES… The journey paid off at Ms. Rose's Fine Food & Cocktails. The dish was so good, I came back the next day after leaving my hotel room to grab another taste before leaving. Another monumental moment was the décor. This place has an over the top custom wall in the back of the restaurant. It’s over the top because the entire wall is made up of pieces of their former restaurant. YES! You heard me right. The former restaurant. Talk about memorabilia. How creative is this? So, if you’re ever in the area, have a bite and pick up your spoon because it just dropped by looking at the wall.
